It was a pleasure to watch two great songwriters apply their craft with ease and precision in this world of instant pop fame. No lip-synching, no pyrotechnics, no glitter - just intimate, articulately performed music. The palpable chemistry between Steep Canyon Rangers and Carole King was evident. He was humble and comedic, she was bright and energetic, and their immaculate voices shone.
Bassist Leland Sklar, drummer Russ Kunkel, and guitarist Danny Kortchmar, Taylor's original band, reunite for the tour and showcase superior musicianship. Each of these guys has had very successful careers as session musicians on their own. It's fun to watch Taylor having fun with his old friends, playing the role of backup musician to King.
Having two really great friends visiting in your living room, they were so charming - even from my seats in the second level. I would gladly pay to see the concert again tomorrow!
